The thryoid is a gland in your neck that controls how your body uses energy (metabolism),
and helps produce and respond to hormones. Surgery to remove all or part of the
thyroid gland might be recommended if you have thyroid cancer, thyroid nodules or
cysts, or hyperthyroidism (a thyroid producing too much hormone). Our surgeons regularly
Parathyroid glands are four small glands in your neck. They produce hormones, and
control the amount of calcium in your bones and blood. Your doctor might recommend
removing one or more of these glands if they are diseased, or if they are producing
too much parathyroid hormone.
